(SomaliNet) A day after a shocking explosion in Kenyan capital Nairobi at City Gate Restaurant on Moi Avenue, witnesses have given their first hand account of the incident.
According to a witness by the name Mary Ngendo, 24, she was standing in for a friend who works at a stall next to the restaurant. The friend is on leave.
She said she was at the entrance when she heard a loud bang.
She said after reporting to the stall, she had decided to go to the restaurant’s toilet to answer a call.
“I arrived at the stall at around 8.15 am and decided to use the restaurant’s toilet. When I was at the entrance to the restaurant, I heard a loud bang and then something hit me,” said Ms Ngendo from her hospital bed.
She told the Nation that she fell at the entrance of the restaurant and lost consciousness.
She was rushed to Nairobi Hospital.
Ms Ngendo said she survived by the grace of God.
Doctors told her that she only had bruises.
“I have never had such experience and my survival is just because of God,” she said.
And at around 11.40am, her relatives visited her at the hospital and she was discharged a few minutes later.
Another witness, Rahab Muthoni said that she was on her way to her work place on Moi Avenue when the blast happened.
“As I was walking, I heard a loud bang and I was hit by something on the head and I fell down,” she said.
Ms Muthoni said before she could figure out what was happening, she just saw pieces of shattered glass falling and people running.
She was rescued by police officers and rushed to Nairobi Hospital.

He said he was plying route No 4 and was being instructed to change to route 34.
“All of a sudden, I heard a big blast and saw smoke,” he said.
And Reuben Maritim said he was having his pair of shoes polished near the scene of the blast when he heard a loud bang.
