Published on: 2007-12-30 09:59:47

(SomaliNet) According to full results released on Sunday by the electoral commission,Mwai Kibaki was re-elected as president of Kenya.

Commission chairperson, Samuel Kivuitu, read out the final tally, which gave Kibaki 4,584,721 votes, ahead of opposition challenger Raila Odinga with 4,352,993.

\"This means Kibaki is the winner. The commission therefore declares President Mwai Kibaki as the winner,\" he said.

Odinga, who moments earlier walked out of a news conference which had been due to announce the final results, has accused Kibaki of stealing the victory through systematic fraud in the tallying process.

\"These results are not the end of the world for the losers, there is tomorrow,\" Kivuitu said.

Observers had anticipated that nationwide riots could break out if Kibaki was declared the winner, despite appeals for calm from all parties and international observers.-Reuters
