(SomaliNet) The latest in a series of murders aimed at ending a land distribution scheme they claim is unfair, tribal fighters in western Kenya have killed four people, an official said Tuesday.
Mr. Mohammed Biriki, the District Commissioner said fighters from the Sabaot Land Defence Force (SLDF) killed the four on Monday in Mount Elgon region near the border with Uganda.
The police said, among the dead was a brother of a former lawmaker opposed to the SLDF.
Meanwhile, Kenya’s security forces have killed at least 44 militants this year.
Tens of thousands have been displaced from around Mount Elgon since December and at least 180 people have been killed, according to aid groups working there.
Attacks flared in the area in late 2006 when the SLDF demanded the nullification of a government settlement scheme in which they were displaced from their ancestral land.-AFP
