Uganda: Ex- health ministry officials in trail

(SomaliNet) In a controversial court trila, a former health minister went on trial in Kampala on Monday on charges of having embezzled millions of dollars in grants meant for the purchase of children\'s vaccines and the fight against Aids.

Ex-health ministere, Jim Muhwezi, his two former deputies, Mike Mukula and Alex Kamugisha, along with an aide of President Yoweri Museveni, Alice Kaboyo, are charged with stealing 1,63-million dollars from a grant from the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation.

The three former health ministry officials have also been mentioned in a corruption scandal involving grants from the Global Fund to fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

The scandal forced the fund to withhold millions of dollars in 2005.

The case was however adjourned to October 29. - Sapa-AFP
