(SomaliNet) Two local aid workers have been killed by unknown gunmen in an ambush of their vehicle in north-eastern Uganda, their employer said on Thursday.
The attack occurred in Anaka sub-county in north-eastern Amuru District, The Paris-based Agency for Technical Co-operation and Development (ACTED) said.
\"Two staff were shot dead, one was injured and one escaped. The attackers robbed the vehicle occupants and escaped,\" ACTED said in the statement sent to AFP. The attack occurred on Wednesday.
\"The two survivors are safe and are currently receiving treatment,\" said the group, adding that it was \"shocked and distressed at this sudden terrible tragedy and ACTED deeply regrets this incident\".
The group said it would assist Ugandan authorities to investigate the incident.
Incidents of crime and banditry are rife in Uganda\'s northern region, which has been wracked by more than two decades of a devastating rebellion waged by the Lord\'s Resistance Army (LRA) insurgents.
Insecurity is rampant despite a truce signed by Kampala and LRA in August last year.
ACTED is an international relief and development agency active in 20 countries around the world.-AFP
