(SomaliNet) After they attempted to rob a motorcycle from a bodaboda cyclist, the Police shot dead two armed thugs in Lungujja-Kosovo, Rubaga Division. Police said the robbers did not have any identification.
Kampala Police spokesperson Simeo Nsubuga said one of the robbers hired a cyclist identified as Katende Ssali near Biyinzika Clinic in Lungujja-Kitunzi.
“The thug told Ssali he was going to the MTN mast in Kosovo. But before they reached, the thug asked him to stop in a swamp.
“Another thug emerged from the bush, pulled a gun on Ssali and ordered him to surrender the motorcycle keys and lie down,” Nsubuga narrated.
However, the thugs failed to start the motorcycle because fuel had run out.
Nsubuga added that some women, who were watching from a distance, raised an alarm.
“Residents responded fast and the thugs took off, shooting in the air. The Police patrol team and the Rapid Response Unit personnel joined the chase. The thugs then entered a swamp in Kosovo zone,” an emergency response unit Police officer said.
Police also deployed two sniffer dogs to trail the thugs.
But before the dogs could trace them, the thugs started shooting in the air forcing the security personnel to fire back.
The operation that lasted about an hour ended at around 5:00pm when the second thug was gunned down and a gun was recovered.
Nsubuga thanked the Lungujja residents for helping the Police to fight robbery.
The thugs’ bodies were taken to the city mortuary.-New Vision
