Uganda: South African pilot killed in Uganda

(SomaliNet) A South African pilot died following an aircraft crash in Uganda, the South African department of foreign affairs has confirmed.

\"The department has been informed by its high commission in Kampala of the death of the South African pilot on Wednesday,\" a statement said on Thursday.

Reports on Wednesday indicated that the light aircraft crashed shortly after taking off in eastern Uganda.

The department said it would assist Fugro Airborne Surveys - which employed the pilot - to return his body to South Africa.

The department extended its condolences to the pilot\'s family.
