Somalia: Deadly violence persists in southern Somalia

According to Somali rebel forces in southern Somalia have been fighting with US-backed Ethiopian soldiers in one of the most populated regions in Somalia.

Press TV correspondent in Somalia reported that fighters loyal to the Union of Islamic Courts (UIC) clashed with Ethiopian forces around 10 kms away from Yakhberi Weyne in Lower Shabelle region late on Monday, forcing them to flee the region.

According to residents, three vehicles of the Ethiopian troops were totally destroyed during the fighting. But the actual casualties are not known yet. –Press TV
