(SomaliNet) A gunman shot dead a Somali woman employee in the latest of a string of attacks on the humanitarian community, the head of a Somali aid agency said.
Duniya Sheik Daud was the 15th aid worker killed so far this year in Somalia, which is caught up in a civil war.
Ali Sheik, the head of aid agency Iida, said Daud was killed Saturday evening as she returned from work at the organization in the central Somali town of Gurilel. The group campaigns for women\'s rights and against female genital mutilation.
It was unclear who was behind the attack.
The impoverished Horn of Africa nation of Somalia has not had a functioning government since warlords overthrew a socialist dictator in 1991 and half the population will be dependent on aid by the end of the year. -AP
