(SomaliNet) For the first time, the administration of the lower Shabelle region in southern Somalia has banned the possession of illegal firearms and briskly walking with any sort of unregistered weapons within the town.

“The regional forces of the lower shabelle region have started going for perambulation for ransacking anyone one possessing illegal firearms within the region, and we are determined to take anyone sighted having unregistered weapon before the commandment, and in recent mission our boys have confiscated 15 AK47 assault rival and 6 pistols” said the deputy security officer of the lower shabelle region colonel Nuriye Ali Farah.

The coastal town of Marka was once considered as one of the few peaceful towns in Somalia, but it was very recently when the image swiftly turned to gloomy, and this came after World Food Program personnel were attacked and killed.

Somaliweyn radio spoke to an old man in his early octogenarian; “I was born in this very old and historic town Marka my father was a Portuguese sailor and my mother was and Omani living in this old town, I was brought up in this town, and I got married in this very town I have sons and daughters there was no one town I have shifted out of the town I have seen different battles in the town let it political one or religious one, but I know the best thing above all is living peace and harmony, we know a Somali poet has earlier stated in a war a son is lost but no son is begotten so I love peace and the peace campaigners” said Abdalla Kamanda an old man speaking to Somaliweyn radio.- Somaliweyn online
