With less than 9 hours to the end of the George W. Bush “presidency” I figured I had best write down some of my recollections before the past is wiped from memory and my anger subsides.

8 years is a long time when you’re waiting for something awful to end, but January 2001 didn’t start with waiting. Active protest, complete with massive puppets and signs declaring “Hail to the Thief,” backs turned as his limo passed by in a shower of eggs and raw vegetables, met Bush as he wormed his way toward his “inauguration”.

Those were heady times in our movement. The anti-globalization, anti-capitalist/corporatist, radical leftist, environmentalist agenda was sweeping across the earth, most notably in anti-World Trade Organization protests in Genoa and Seattle, both of which turned into police riots. The people were full of the knowledge of their own power and were not afraid to show it.

The success of this movement seems to have forced the hand of the powers that be. They ripped the mask off of the preeminent and apparently free republic with fair elections in order to install the neo-conservative cabal now known as the Bush Administration. To them, truth appeared to be spreading, as massive protests over their global wrongdoings were growing at an alarming rate.

I remember how horrible the corporate news coverage leading up to his “selection” by the Supreme Court was. So little was said of his horrific blood lust, evidenced by his record execution rate as Governor of Texas, and his crazy ideas about education and the environment were not spoken of. Not much has changed on that front, I am sorry to say, but the real agenda of this 2001 coup wasn’t revealed until the morning of September 11, 8 months into his “presidency”.

I knew when I saw it on TV that they f-king did it, and those were the words I used when my wife woke me to the carnage. I knew this because I had watched the process build to this. At the time, not many people shared my paranoid understanding of how power is structured on this planet. For me it took seeing hundreds of riot cops line up against completely peaceful protesters in the middle of nowhere, California. The state aligned itself with the corporation, Pacific Lumber in this case, against the citizens of their own nation. This completed the destruction of my belief in a representative government of, by and for the people.

That all happened during Clinton, who obviously was not the first bad apple in the chair of POTUS. Fact of the matter is, I think, realistically, we would have a terrible time attempting to find a president who actually followed the will of the people as opposed to the agenda of capitalists, other secretive fascist groups or overseas governments.

I know I’m jumping all over here, but so few have the correct suspicion of government, corporations and the powerful that I hope my final psychotic break will bring understanding quickly.

So, anyway, a pushover Democrat was not what was needed to push forth the agenda of the Good Old USA Corporation®. Obviously, there was an extreme need to move on the neo-con agenda, toward some unknown goal, which required purging African-Americans from the voting rolls in Florida and then having the Florida Supreme Court push the vote count decision higher…to the US Supreme Court.

One Iraq, an Afghanistan and a “financial bailout”, combined with the tripling of domestic fuel prices, the most severely corrosive legislation regarding civil liberties and a massive foreclosure wealth redistribution scheme later…the agenda is all too clear. Destroy America for the power elite has been the goal all along.

How do you defeat those who attack us because of our freedoms?

Get rid of the freedoms.

How do you stop a wave of humanity from realizing the potential it holds?

9-11.

How do you keep the restless poor from killing and eating the rich?

Obama.

Do not be afraid. Life is a force beyond the control of powerful human interests. Fight for a better world for those who might follow us.

The truth and power of real punk rock has always been driven by the genuine freedom of thought and action promoted and held by the pioneers of punk. Needless to say, there have been fun deviations, but the truth of punk presents itself almost unambiguously as a threat to state power or any power that detracts from individual liberty. In other words, don't let Obama off the hook.
