What you may be referring to are the capital police: (Marehan Russian trained snipers) who would go on rooftops around the buildings where MSB (aun) would talk and guard him, or the 'Dhubka Cas' aka 'Red Berets' who were a specially trained and feared army unit. Both these units were 100% Marehan, and Saddam's Father was the Commander of the Red Berets. 8)

Remnants of the Red Berets reorginized after the Gov't fell, and when they did, it makes no suprise that they chased the USC out of Galkacyo, Kismayo, Gedo and even killed the number two commander of the USC, Col Shabel (aun).
