Guilty By Association

Post by Digital-Infidelity »

What does it mean to you? I had a very interesting argument with a certain friend about the reach or moral limitations on vengeance and where the line should be drawn with regards to guilty by association. What do you think?

It depends.

I use the term to coincide with my loyalty to someone. If 'A' is my family member and 'B' gets into a fight with A and are no longer friends; then B and all his/her buddies will be kicked out of my life (guilt by association) to sustain solidarity in my family.

"guilt-by-association"....morality and vengeance? exactly what do you mean? those two can be mutually exclusive at times.

if you're referring to someone being linked to another person's fallacies because of their friendship or association....in the context of morality, i think people aught to be allocated the right to reserve such judgment if they so choose, u are the friends you keep per se,

however, in the sense of serving penalties("vengeance" "repercussions" etc).. imposing punishment in that regard should be designated for the sole perpetrators of whatever crime alleged and not those in association by means of mere friendship..unless otherwise proven in some fold that they're an accessory to the crime.

I believe sufficient evidence is required before you accuse people of anything.

Digital,

I believe in showing as much compassion as your enemy shows you.

I have had a falling out with a distant adeer who wronged my fam many years ago when I was a mere young teen. I still remember it and inshallah, I will seek revenge against him and his children when they become teens.

Revenge is bitter sweet.

AW,

I can understand him, but why his children? What did they do to you? You can't punish them just because of their father.

Firefly,

Its not only his children, but his wife, his cousins, his aunts.

Its only fair that the same kind of revenge is exacted.

He did not distinguish nor care that my siblings and I were children.

I just wish my father was more like me and took revenge instead of letting it slide because he believes in that things work themselves out and wrong doers eventually pay a price.

AW,

So the whole family wronged you specifically? Or are you just taking it out on them too?

I agree with your father. Sometimes it's best to forget and forgive. People who do you wrong do get what they deserve eventually.

Firefly,

HIs children were not even born. Still they will defend their father so must also partake in sharing the punishment.

My father is a miskiin and we are strikingly so different. He took after his awowe (AUN) and I took after his father (AUN)

AW,

They shouldn't take sides because they were not even their to witness it. But then again, it's only natural for children to show loyalty to their parents.

You're just like my brother, he never forgives/forgets someone who does him wrong.
