To have "welcome" or "good bye" Parties?
Not your usual dinner prties....but a full out dressed up in dirac and and jewlery with a 'fanaan' party just because somone moved into town?
My friend was telling me about one that she went to...from the way she was going on about it...it might as well have been a wedding...

Parties are normal but that sounds little bit extreme. Not an expert on Somali culture though

Well it happens in minnesota on daily weekends i hear! Starting thursday afternnon into the weekend. It seems like the daily weekend wedding is not enough, somalis need welcome nd go away party! Any excuse to bring xalimos out of the lonely solitary rooms, as going to the clubs is as we all know-xaraam.

Yes its a normal somali thing, but not for people that have moved into town, Its usually held for a person that come on holiday for the first time to see there relatives or friends which they haven't seen in a long time.
