3 Austrian hospital workers suspended for allegedly stealing, selling human remains
VIENNA, Austria: Three hospital workers have been suspended on suspicion of stealing bodies from a morgue at the Vienna clinic and trying to sell them, officials said Sunday.
The three — two men and a woman whose names were not released — had worked at Kaiser Franz Josef Hospital. They were arrested after hospital administrators received a tip and alerted police, authorities said.
Investigators said the trio allegedly sent e-mails offering to sell the bodies to "interested parties," who were not further identified.
The three were suspended immediately, said hospital director Susanne Herbek.
Prosecutors said they were still trying to determine how much money the suspects were asking for the human remains and ascertain whether any bodies actually had been sold.
