Has anyone taking the G.R.E

Post by Ican »

Has anyone here taken the g.r.e(Graduate Record Examination), do most colleges/universities in the US require you to take it for admission?

It depends on the Graduate School and the major, I've come across some colleges that don't require it for majors like MPA, you might wanna check the school's website first. LSAT is pretty easy compared to MCAT, I've taken practice exams on both, they don't even compare.

yea koronto, i've always thought it was only for liberal arts majors etc and not for engineering. But it seems most schools in the US require you to take it.

Ican,

I think different schools do it different ways. In my school the Technology/Engineering dept if you graduate with a 3.0 + in your Major you can be admitted to the master's program but ofcourse different schools have their different requirements.

G.R.E is must of many fields of study. LSAT is for those are trying to get into Law school, MCAT for medical students etc. What Murax is referring is, some school if you are student there working on your bachelors and you plant to attend grad school within that school, you are exempted from taking G.R.E if you have maintained for 3.0 or above in your major of study. I will give you the tip to get accepted in any grad school. Go to any school and take non-credited grad class with the continue education department and if you maintain 3.5 GPA in that class, you can go to Academics of that school request to be put on the grad program, they will evaluate and accept you for grad program in most cases. I have many friends that did this....

Yo Hard Rock,

About your question the other night, I applied to many Grad schools and McMaster were the first to send me an acceptance offer, that's why Hamilton, ON. I applied to Emory right here in Atlanta, but I am still waiting on them, GSU & GA Tech both don't have the major I want. And Yeah, FAFSA will cover, I also got a couple of fellowships lined up, insha Allah.

Hard Rock,

Exactly. You can bypass the gpa requirement in your school by enrolling as a continuing education student and once you take a couple of course and maintain a good gpa you will formally be accepted into the program. However if you're applying to a different school then I think each school has their own requirements right?

Koronto,
There is this Somali dude I know from ATL who is now attending medical school in the Caribbean and yes he is using his financial Aid so I think you can still use your financial Aid in Canada. My concern with grad schools is that they are too expensive and always it is better to be the resident of that state or else you end up accruing tons of student loans, and believe me that grace period (6months in most cases) flies like a light. Before you even get that internship, there is payment waiting for you. lol. From your choice of school (Emory) I'm guessing your majoring either Law or Med so have you tried UGA?

Murax, you are correct, if you trying to get into the Grad program right away, you will have to meet the requirements if you coming from another school. The bypass is you act like you are not interested the grad school and take the loop-hole throught continued education lol.

Wallahi the MCAT is easier from my experience. The LSAT is crazy, and makes no sense whatsoever.

As for the G.R.E, I took a practice exam and its not so bad.
