Salaams y'all. dang never knew this neck of the woods is actually poppin.
I'm in a predicament ppl, after 17 years I've decided I want to re-unite with the old land. I've been thinking of visiting back home alot coz I don't remember any of it.
Yeah, kinda impulsive but i want to go real soon like maybe dec/jan soon!! Anyhoo, just wanted to ask y'all what are the best places to visit in PL, in terms of safety n stuff. I'm tossing between my hometown Garrowe & Bosaaso although I got fam in Galkacyo too. Or is it safer just to visit my granny's folks in budhoodle? Any thoughts y'all love to hear, much love.
tuba good for you si, but last time i've been to somalia was a lngtime ago. i dont remember any guns shots in Galkayo, but is sure there. any ho. whatever u go enjot urself. and try exploring more than puntland, go to kismayo, hargayasa, lascanod and burco.
Thanks sis, yeah i heard GC can be pretty rough these days.... as for other parts of Somalia... would i be welcome? I'm being very cautious here I love my life
Oh yeah... is there like fighting going on currently in the region of PL? (or is a more appropriate question how bad is the fighting there) I'm so lost with Somali politics.

Gaalkacyo is safe! I stayed there a entire month and nothing happend too me! just make sure your with your relatives all the time. People there can be very rude! and you might get confused if you dont know the dhaqan.
Absolutely the safest.
Authority and law/order, friendly people and because it is so small everybody knows everybody so theres barely anyone out there that is criminal.
Bosaso:
Second most safest.
Friendly people, AK-47 NOT ALLOWED! Again a lot of Puntland authority so no chance for criminals.
Gaalkacyo:
Not SAFE, Again NOT Safe.
Especially for diaspora Somalis, NOT SAFE!
- Gun shots every 30 to 40 minutes.
- I was staying in Aaren Hotel, a guy i knew got mugged there in brought daylight. And this was one of the safest area's in GK.
If you don't have LOADS of relatives in Gaalkacyo, never visit that place.
dawwa thanks bro... muggin in broad daylight? sh.t that is so gangster runtii Lakiin whats the beef with locals n diaspora Somalis? One of my home girls went back they did some weird vodoo sh!t on her and her cousin.. sup with that?
But yeah so far Garrowe & Bosaaso are lookin good...
Altough shopkeepers in Puntland are very annoying. They all want to know everything about you, while you only want to buy an item from them and leave. Very noisy, they will ask your clan, sub-clan, who your parents are, how old you are, what you are doing here, EVERYTHING. The first couple of times its OK, but after getting that over 30 times... LOL
I have also heard according to the locals, diasporans act stuck-up and think they're better than locals. So if you are there don't act like a big-shot, because people don't like that.
BTW Here is my recent video of Bosaso, check it out:
Oh jaizumu Allah kheir for sharing walaal, seems like u had a good time. Some nice houses there runtii way better than what I imagined... & the beach is so pretty there should have been more recordin of it.
As for them outsiders thinkin there sh.t don't stink thats twisted, i ain't like that but i don't think i'll blend, my somali jajaban will be an easy give away.

Only needs a few palm trees to give it a tropical-vibe.
You also shouldn't be afraid when landing in Bosaso, it looks like you will crash in the sea but the airport/strip is very close to beach, kinda scary.

airport right next to the beach?... that does sound hella scary
Puntland is all safe, theres no war watso ever. Bosaso is the best city out there, u better visit there, u will have a great time, visit the nice sites, biyo kulule, Laag which is breath taking lake, ofcourse eat out in some amazing restaurants, like Panaroma, and karaame, and others, in Bosaso u will find anything and everything, u dnt feel like ur in somalia at all. and theres no danger there, u can walk in the middle of the nite with cash and no one will ever think of robbing u, people in bosaso are very educated and well of, except ofcourse the refugees from south, who might spoil our peace sometimes. other than that its cool.
and Galkacyo aint that bad, i have a friend who went there and said he never had no problems there, only problems comes from south of the border, although u dont have much knowledge about somalia, am sure u know galkacyo is divided, and theres a greenline which people dont cross 2 the haawiye side, so just stay on your side, and always stay with ur relatives, dont ever act like ur from dibaada or rich with people there, and dont walk with handbag or money.thats just asking for it!

Heres a proof that I have infact been too Gaalkacyo! outside Aaran hotel theres a lil shop made out of Carish! Gabdho baa ka shaqeyo! and they sell Dacas, and chewing gum(1000 Shilling Somali for 4) etc! also the guard is a skinny funny looking man! whos about 40-50! he comes around during night time! and last but not lets they have tuna fish dish at the resturant! and they have about 19 rooms there! I stayed at 119! 3 beds in the room! Should I go on?
Anyway! Gaalkacyo was safe for me! I have many relatives there! but overall the place is safe!
I believed you on the part of the little Carish shop outside, under the Qurac tree.
The price for a chewing gum was 3000 Shilling as of July 2008, haha some heavy inflation!
BTW Did you also feel sorry for the hotel next to Aaran. The new Aaren took all the customers from the (old) white hotel next to it. Some heavy competition going on there.
