Al-Qaeda is a well-funded, disciplined organization with millions of dollars and tens of thousands of soldiers at their disposal. The Taliban is a few thousand guerilla fighters with limited opium-based profit and is armed with little more then kicks and punches.

paidmonk...I used to believe exactly what u just said for the longest time but then I realized they don't need a "base" since they can operate clandestinely in different countries...they're not a militia restricted to Galkacyo or Cabudwaq, but a worldwide multi-national organization. They don't need to have 1 central location where they all meet up for a game of golf after a long day of beheading kufaar. They don't need to capture a country because they've never said it's their M.O. Is it really that far-fetched to believe they can extract thousands of dedicated men from a pool of 1.5 BILLION? I don't believe for a second that Al-Qaeda is responsible for everything they're blamed for...but a worldwide Islamic network funded by oil-rich A-rabs is hardly unimagineable.
