The females were for the motion and most of the guys opted to be against, in a classic clash of the sexes. The girls were very vocal in their insistence of empowering women, especially, since giving the opportunities allowed women to play a greater role in rebuilding social relations in a post-conflict society. For the most part, it was fascinating to see some of the student express well articulated reasoned opinions. I was very happy to say the least.

Empowerment of Women
Today, I had the most interesting class. I organised a conversational discussion for my intermediate class. We toyed with many different topics including; should SNM history be taugh in Somaliland school, why do young Somalilanders pretend to be from Europe or America - the so called daqaan aan doorfin
. In the end, we chose a topic which was very interesting. We chose empowerment of women in a Somaliland context. We had a very heated debated and its amazing how opinionated some of the students were.

Emperior5, the students are very articulate. They are mostly between the ages of 18-40The_Emperior5 wrote:Marcussmith what do you teach in hargeisas university and do you have smart students

SNM history is important. It should be given a raised platform or at the very least promoted. The government as far as I am aware seems to have a policy of ambiguity. There needs to be a change of policy so as to ensure the pivotal role the SNM played in the liberation of Somaliland is recognised and commemorated.
