Re: The Indian Diaspora
How embarrassing. And the somalis are probably at the bottom of barrel in every country except maybe kenya and tanzania.

^^That's because Kenya and Tanzania do no have expansive social security systems. The Somalis there are forced to work and become something. Meanwhile, those in Europe and the West became reliant on state benefits.

Re: The Indian Diaspora
That's not an excuse. We have a culture that rewards laziness whereas the indians (and asians in general) reward hard-work, honour and industriousness. The indians in the UK are not on benefits so what excuse do the somalis have? (and don't say they were here before us. That excuse is fast wearing out)GaajoUnit wrote:^^That's because Kenya and Tanzania do no have expansive social security systems. The Somalis there are forced to work and become something. Re: The Indian Diaspora
They are bloody hard-workers. I used to despise them and even had some heated arguments with friends of how they're making life hard for us (as migrants in general) because they're everywhere and doing almost every job. But the truth is, good for them. They are good at networking and do what they do relentlessly. As the guy in TYT video said, we can learn a lot from them.

Calm down. I didn't give you an excuse, rather I gave you a reason. Yes, Indian culture can be attributed to some of their sucesses, but how do you explain the Somalis challenging traditional Asian businesses in East Africa and Southern Africa? The fact that Somalis are on mass benefits in the West has more to do with the way in which they came to the country as refugees in the early 90s. I Those still Somali parents expect their sons and daughters to go to university and work. A young man claiming benefits is not a good look these days. The women are a different story because of religious perceptions and somali culture. Somalis can be entreprenuirial and hardworking as Asians, given the right conditions and environment.

They are more hard-working than any other migrant group, its as simple as that. As Somalis, we need to create a culture where we reward hard work. We should learn from the Indians.abdi.ismail wrote:That's not an excuse. Also, Latinos and African Americans combined make up almost 30% of the US population but their stats are disastrous.

Re: The Indian Diaspora
I don't think its fair to always say that Somalis are on welfare, and are losers etc etc. The only people I see on welfare are a few single mothers that couldn't work even if they wanted to, exactly the same people who this safety net was legislated for.
Somali men are mostly toiling in every field, from the restaurant business to the trucking business. Somalis dominate midwestern trucking in the United States lol. I don't know about the Euro Somalis tho....
I even know some Somali women who are so enterprising that by day they run in home childcare centers, and by night they run janitorial businesses that clean downtown skyscrapers.
Given the opportunity, I don't know any Somali person who has shied away from doing work...

Re: The Indian Diaspora
Somalis do get a lot of "Informal income" and thus they are not actually registered as employed.
I also think the reasons Somalis do so well in Kenya/Tanzania/Uganda is cos we can slot into that society easily no problems. We share some cultural links with our fellow East Africans and there is no language barrier per se.
