Of course they do not want Somalia to have an independent (from Western powers), competent, and powerful military. Such strength would ensure that Somalia would have the capabilities to protect its interests and its own nations from other nations seeking to exploit or dominate Somalia. The US would prefer to dominate Somalia through secretive military force (which it is currently doing), Westernizing the nation, and ensuring that any leaders in Somalia catered to the US' demands. In other words, it would prefer to make Somalia a non-formal colonial state, just as it has done to other nations.

Walaal i know it's better to die standing then serve on our knees, but we have been dying and serving on our knees for decades now.
The US does anything it wants in Africa just like the other powers that be do. So why can't we take advantage of that? Serve them and build our country to be independent in the future. The europeans did that so did the japanese.

Your innocence is adorable . That is not all to it, the Arms Embargo was imposed on Somalia in 1992 to stop Somalis slaughtering each other
on a bigger scale in the civil war.

U.N made the right decision by not completely lifting the arms embargo because there is no effective goverment or national army in place so lifting the arms embargo would have been dangerous.

Why do they even want weapons?
The country is awash with arms. There should be a disarmament programme.
