The sanctions imposed on Russia in result of Crimea referendum will not stop this guy but I would be worried if all major assets were frozen.

Actually I have been following this event quite extensively since the beginning of the Ukrainan uprising. I am aware that there were Russian troops aka Red Cross trucks on the Eastern Ukrainian front but everything I have seen ,reports/rumors etc, this is the most "official" this invasion has ever been. Satellite images, albeit some Kremlin trolls saying this is photoshopped, is enough evidence for me. Also read the title, this is the first "full scale" invasion and is happening on two different fronts. Everything else has just been military posturing.

I really like Putins strategy in all this, he's taking his slow ass time. This is like the exact opposite of a blitzkrieg.

As a student of history, this is just like the Cold War. I doubt Finland and the other Baltic countries are going to get engaged in war with Russia, this is just Russia and NATO testing each others air space. Happens pretty often, it's like when you go to a persons house as a martii and they bring you some baasto with some funky smelling suugo and you nibble on a bit of the basto to test out the taste.

Actullay Bella I don't think he's looking for any allies at all. Ukraine is a resource rich country. Back in the USSR days Ukraine was the second largest economic area, behind Russia itself, and was a major industry center: vehicles (ground, air, and spacefaring), military equipment and small arms, and a decent amount of crop production. If Russia annexed it, it would again enjoy these benefits and boost its own economy.

In other words, I believe this is the first step of Putin wanting to recreate and start a new USSR.
