Greater emphasis on the communication barrier. Culturally speaking they idol worship to Haile Selassie "King of Kings". Anyone that pays homage or consorts with one that does should be charged with treason and forced to read 100s of books on Somali culture and history as torture.

Surprisingly no. I know a Somali female who is married to this mexican guy. They've both not been here for more than 5 months. Neither of them speak English. To this day, I wonder how they communicate.

I thought my grasp of af Somali from every region was airtight but with that last part I'm stumped

I'm not sure if we have official engagements in the Somali culture as is in this part of the world(getting down on one knee, the ring, she said yes)..but we have our version of prelude to marriage such as "soo doon", albeit it's an exchange of promise to marry between parents of the prospective bride and groom, nonetheless a normative practice is in place to accommodate all things "engagement"
