On a marriage that lasted for 5 months. How can you take them out of their depression?....it's becoming the norm..a lot if friends it's happening to..at the beginning theirs happiness and now we have to delete the pics off of our fb or social media..then you get concerned for their mental welfare ,.its becoming epidemic

You can't console stupidity because your friend is stupid. $40k on marriage = nacasnimo.

Someone who is into you & wants to share life & offspring with you wouldn't bargain with you & ask you to spend such and such amount on her & wedding or everything is off the table. That's called trading/business, not marriage.

Think of it as a business venture that went flop. You win some you lose some. He certainly didn't get a return on investment. However, what separates the winners from the losers is their ability to tackle adversity. It's not the end of the world. It shall soon pass.

Not related to marriage, but you reminded me of this.

Earlier in the year, I found out my employer for a volunteering role on the side (tuition for local Somali kids) hadn't been paying me for the whole duration I was volunteering (8-9 months I think). Added up to more than £1000. I decided he will pay bi ithnillaah come rain or high water, and I extracted my xaqq out of him wa lillaahil xamdu wa shukr. My grand mother was quite dismissive of the whole thing though, saying to forget about it and Allah will reward me with better, which I agreed with but I also felt the guy should be taught a lesson, as he did this to so many Somali women (who were in less fortunate positions than me).

Anyway alxamdulillah, everything fixed itself in the end, but only later did my grandmother explain her stance. She worked as a (very meticulous) civil servant for the government (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and was tasked with overseeing an important shipment worth thousands. The ship sank during it's voyage, all that wealth was lost. She walked away smiling (I guess it's one of those reactions, either breakdown in tears or laugh nervously) People asked her why she was smiling. She said "how can I get angry when Allah is the best of planners?". Maa shaa Allah.

Meher...venue $500...food and deco..$3k...family given $2k...elders of the tribe given $1500

Honeymoon to Turks and Caicos $3k..

Her Sharci cause she from canada $2300

House furniture and etc ..$14k...

5 months later ....divorce....debt all around...on top of that city divided on laying blame and criticism

What money though? If he had money, 40k on a wedding would be nothing. He probably racked up credit card debt, got help from his family etc. etc.
