He was given time to think about this.

That was all he was told. No warnings, no threats, etc.

Basically there are two reasons why this happened;

1. Farmaajo ABSOLUTELY REFUSED to recognize the sham election.

His lack of recognition was a million times more important to the UN than previous Presidents who also opposed Madoobe because Farmaajo was not only Somali Pres but he also came from/represented the dominant view of a community (Marehan) that is considered to be the most important principal in a peaceful/conflict free Jubbaland.

That's why the international partners did not say peeo/even try to discuss his position because it wasn't just a symbolic Central State vs. Federalism. This was also about constituting the very basic shape of that state to begin with.

2. With Farmaajo absolutely opposed, the international partners did not recognize or get in the tit for that was the cheap political stunts by the opposition (they were not even from Jubbaland so meant nothing to the partners).

What gave them the push needed to finally confront Kenya (nicely of course) to compel Madoobe to agree to Villa Somalia points was Ethiopia's angry position in support of Farmaajo.

Ethiopia not only refused to recognize Madoobe elections, but said "hostilities" were created in a region (Jubbaland) that was of more strategic interest to them than any other part of Somalia for "neighborly relations."

That might as well have been a gun shot from Ethiopia saying one way or another, they would work to change Madoobe.

With these two points the partners brought together by the African Union delivered their positions
