"[r]ecently, the abilities that led to success in school, work, and business were characteristic of the left hemisphere. They were the sorts of linear, logical, analytical talents measured by SATs and deployed by CPAs. Today, those capabilities are still necessary. But they're no longer sufficient. In a world upended by outsourcing, deluged with data, and choked with choices, the abilities that matter most are now closer in spirit to the specialties of the right hemisphere - artistry, empathy, seeing the big picture, and pursuing the transcendent"
So the left hemisphere does not matter any more today, i mean not sufficient. The author is somehow alluding to the outsourcing of talents From India , China and other Asian countries whose populace work so hard as to master these analitical skills ,math, technology and so on. The author seems to be giving an implicit message that opportunities from this field are limited. Also, since, the right mind was often associated with the blacks behind the backdrop of prejudicism, could it be necessary to convince the general public that they can be good singers, players and what have you

This author is an idiot! This grouping talk of the two brain sides & grouping people as a result is totally absurd.I am not an expert in the brain organ, but i do know whatever this author is saying is gibberish enough. But i will take his own admission of his cluelessness to this subject at hand, & leave it there.
'Of course, the human brain, with its 100 billion cells forging 1 quadrillion connections, is breathtakingly complex. The two hemispheres work in concert, and we enlist both sides for nearly everything we do. But the structure of our brains can help explain the contours of our timess'
"Abundance
Our left brains have made us rich. Powered by armies of Drucker's knowledge workers, the information economy has produced a standard of living that would have been unfathomable in our grandparents' youth. Their lives were defined by scarcity. Ours are shaped by abundance. Want evidence? Spend five minutes at Best Buy"
Well that is true.
But this is only temporary. Economy abundance is something that is temporary. Different US administrations bring different economy situation. Democrats bring abundancy & prosperity & Republicans bring the reverse. The thing balances out in the end. Soon these dirty third world country workers such India & China would soon loose these outsourcing 'opportunities' that they are currently enjoying.
So this author needs to chill & have some sleep.
In brief.......
"To flourish in this age, we'll need to supplement our well-developed high tech abilities with aptitudes that are "high concept" and "high touch." High concept involves the ability to create artistic and emotional beauty, to detect patterns and opportunities, to craft a satisfying narrative, and to come up with inventions the world didn't know it was missing. High touch involves the capacity to empathize, to understand the subtleties of human interaction, to find joy in one's self and to elicit it in others, and to stretch beyond the quotidian in pursuit of purpose and meaning."
Satisfying Narrative such as this 'artistic beautiful article?? Is this author self congratulating himself with this article of 'high Concept or 'high touch???
Is this author telling us that we need to be more artistically creative in order to defeat these hungry outsourcing Indians?? And is he suggesting that Indians or third world country workers are incapable of being creative???
Is this just a mere frustration or fear of incompetency from the author? With the jobs outsourced & the abundance soon to be minimized,Fear not mister--things will go back to normal as soon as the republican live the office. Democrats will come in & make it a prosperous place & then republicans will come back & mess the perfect surplus budget all over again & we consumers, we Americans will just be here to benefit the smooth balance of pace of capitalism & never have to worry about inflation, dollar fallout, & all the unpleasant niceties that the dirty third world countries are going through right now. We should be thankful that we have a democratic system where two very different minds(republican & democrats) have a chance to be in charge & make their nuanced changes to the worlds economy!Thankful that we have a freedom of speech universe where this fool who wrote this article is free enough to whin & congratulate himself on being 'narratively creative' i guess. I also would like to personally thank him for making me feel good today.
I am all for "Satisfying narrative creations such as my contributions here in Somalinet & the pursuit of artistic beauty & of course, 'meaning'!
Yippie Yippie yeah!

Mikey@lol
I see you are in the left hemisphere group. Looool You are not looking at the BIG picture here dear. My point of including politcs in this 'Pinks" thesis is purely from reading between the line, focussing on what he was saying or at least the root of his article. (OUTSOURCING. ) Yes indeed Absame did in fact 'comprehend' it & agrees with me that Pink is voicing fears of the continuation of outsourcing .
Look at the BIG picture Mikey -- Think in the 'right hemisphere' .
"In a world upended by outsourcing, deluged with data, and choked with choices, the abilities that matter most are now closer in spirit to the specialties of the right hemisphere - artistry, empathy, seeing the big picture, and pursuing the transcendent. "
The current stupid administration is responsible for this outsourching, simple as that.Pinks Pseudo scientific theory of left & right thinking is almost purely gibberish. I said--'almost' - looool -- Can't u get it Mikey??? Think 'Right' means think republic! I am not a conpiracist but hey--- as the above Pinks definition of 'Right hemisphere' -- Artistry (tricking america) ---Empathy (deceiving to empathize with Iraqis & saving them from Saddam or Taliban) & of course 'Seeing the big picture'
Which is is ..... GET RICH FROM THE IRAQI OIL in the future, BIG picture!

This whole article seemed boring but one study that i found very captivating was one that came out few months back. It said that children who are independant, rational, and thinkers grow up to be democrats while emotional thinkers, whiner and stubborn kids grow up to be republicans..absolutely fascinating..Most republicans are idealogeous and rarely defy their party. Most vote with their party on almost all the issues. Whereas democrats are independant thinkers, very indivualistic and more willing to comprimise.
