Range resources on Somali oil hunt
October 12, 2006
AUSTRALIAN resources explorer Range Resources has signed a $US50 million ($67.50 million) deal with Canadian-based Canmex Minerals to help it look for oil in Somalia.
Canmex will be the operator of the exploration, which is located in the northeastern state of Puntland, and has to complete a minimum of four exploration wells to secure an 80 per cent stake in the project.
A production sharing agreement is expected to be finalised between Range, Canmex and the Puntland government by the end of next month.
Melbourne-based Range is exploring for oil, gas, nickel and uranium in Western Australia, Peru and Puntland.

correction puntland has a dowlad and can sign of the resources of puntland not somalia... ........why not they are the government elected by the people.........do we have federal government that is doing something for somalia.... nooooooo....so as long as theres no proper government in somalia then puntland can do anything to develope its land......?
and so what if it's 80% can u get something better? i dont think any company will invest in somalia because of the security situation. so we'r lucky to even have them and what ever it is 20 or 30% and it's going to puntland thats good........it's our resources........whats the point if we never explore it? and if theres alot of oil then obviously more companies would be interested and the price will be higher..........
and it will not go 2 cade muse as his a respectful leader looking out for the interest of his people.......this will only create more jobs...for the people......and puntland already has a good economy coming from the port which gets like 1 million a day?
so if ur a true puntlanders then you'd be happy for the developement your country is making?
and stop waiting for dowlad there is no dowlad..it will never come..and as soon as abdulahi yusuf government is over...puntland should seek recognition.......
amiin

Clearly you have no knowledge of Politics. This will backfire on Cadde.
Dont tell me you seriously think anyone besides Cadde and the company will benifit from this.

Imagine having you as a lawyer
You cant negotiate worth shit. You have that typical adoon mentality that most African leaders have.
Look, we are in a time where ressources are scarce and every company/government is willing to invest loads of money on projects even though the outcomes are uncertain. Ten years ago no company would be willing to take the risk of losing money by investing in what could turn out to be nothing. The dumbfock Cadde didnt even take the time to search the market or negotiate but took the first offer he got.
Nomatter what you think, Puntland is not a Dowlad (recognized country) and any deal Cadde has signed with that tuug company is worthless in the eyes of the international community. Once Somalia is stabelized RR will be told to fock off.
By the way, Cadde has no authority over the lands he is trying to explore. You know what happened last time.
