DO YOU HAVE A LOW SPERM COUNT???
A survey of North America GPs and their patients suggests 40% per cent of men - that's 25.6 million of them - have a worryingly low sperm count. 3.5 million are from Somalia. "Qaad" also known as leafy green like drug causes 70% of low sperm count. Same goes with weed smoking.
Pollutants, pesticides and female hormones in the water supply could also be partly to blame.
But medics are adamant poor lifestyle is the prime cause, and a change to a healthier life for him means a better chance of conceiving for her.
"It takes about 6 months for sperm to develop," says fertility expert Zita West. "So changes have an effect fairly quickly."
Here's how fellas can keep their count up...
Be more active
STAYING fit and keeping to a healthy weight will improve sperm quality.
Studies show that overweight and skinny men are less likely to father children. According to fertility experts, this is because excess body fat and lack of muscles creates heat in the groin that can damage the little swimmers.
Quit smoking
IN the GP survey, 44 per cent said smoking was by far the biggest factor in falling counts. Call the NHS Stop Smoking Helpline on 0800 169 0 169.
Watch the beer
BINGE drinking - defined as downing more than six units (or just two pints) in one session - leads to a decrease in sperm quality. Men should stick to the recommended daily limit of two to three units a day.
Just say no
RECREATIONAL drugs can also have an effect. "Marijuana can seriously affect a sperm's ability to fertilise an egg, and it stays in the body for a long time," says Zita.
Relax
THERE'S some evidence stress could have a negative effect.
Simple things like going for a walk and having a long bath are great stress-busters. Sex also helps.
Keep his mobile phone in his jacket
IT may sound strange, but according to Medical of Urologist Committee, if a man keeps his phone in his trousers the heat it generates could damage sperm. For similar reasons, they should never use a laptop on their lap - or wear very tight pants.
Eat his greens
"ANTIOXIDANT nutrients including vitamins C and E, and minerals zinc and selenium, are vital for sperm health," says nutrition consultant Ian Marber. They're found in fresh fruit and veg, particularly green leafy vegetables, and nuts and seeds.
Less red meat.. more fish
"OILY fish like sardines, salmon and tuna contain omega 3 fatty acids, vital for sperm cell health, and DHA, needed for healthy sperm heads and tails," says Ian. "And they're a healthier source of protein than red meat, which can disrupt hormones."
Have a check-up
"INFECTIONS are a leading cause of male infertility," "Men should see their GP and get checked out for STIs like chlamydia, and also for infections of the prostate gland.
Do a DIY test
What do u mean by low sperm count?
Do u mean: do u produce alot of semen when u come or does your semen count fewer sperm cells than normal men?
I cant answer for the latter (I am not a scientist) and for the former, I *coughs*
semen is the liquid that carries your sperm to the ovary (Fetus or Egg) of the female.
You can have a bucket full of semen but still produce low sperm count. In order to determine whether you have a healthy amount of sperm you should do a DYE test. Some tips of finding out if you have an adequate amount of sperm you can check your own sperm when you masturbate.
example:
1) if you have a whitish thick cum discharge= sign that you have plenty of sperm.
2) odourless taste like light soya milk =YOu can taste your own cum nothing wrong with it beside who will know it but you.
3) able to ejaculate 1-2 table spoon in one cum.
A man should have atleast 2-3 billion sperm in each testicles to be considered healthy and normal.
Hope that helps
