Somali premier asks Ex-national forces to be part of the disarmament mission

Aweys Osman Yusuf

Mogadishu 05, Jan.07 ( Sh.M.Network) – Somalia’s prime minister Ali Mohammed Gedi, who delivered a speech to former Somali national forces in the capital Mogadishu, called on the residents in the capital to cooperate with the Ethiopian and government forces over the government disarmament mission which is due to happen on Saturday.

He asked former Somali national forces to forget about their rancor against the Ethiopian troops. “Men fight and forgive each other. Whatever happened is the past and I ask you to forget about it”, he said.

Ali Dheere, the commander of the national police force in Mogadishu, gave the prime minister long details about the grave conditions that the Somali national forces faced in the past 16 years.
Gedi urged former Somali national forces to take part in the disarmament mission in the capital.

“I heard some people say the disarmament mission will be confined to Mogadishu. Well, I say that is Preposterous. The disarmament mission will happen in all Somalia from Raas Kamboni to Raas Caseer”, he said.

The news comes as President Abdulahi Yusuf asked the international community to help Somalia with peacekeeping forces and a relief aid.

The prime minister said his government has the support of the international community, promising that African peacekeepers will be deployed to Somalia at the end of January.

Three days given to the people in Mogadishu to surrender their arms ended on Thursday in failure.
