It was a politial party from 1970-1977 with 15 members it was Somali communists who was trying to overthrow the Somali government the party committed high treason by being located in Addis Abba Ethiopia and working with the Ethiopian government. The party failed to rally the Somali people since the Somali Nationalism was strong and Somali workers party was considered traitors by the somali society, most of the members fleed Ethiopia when Somalia crushed the Ethiopian army in 1977 and it looked like a Somali victory.
