SAWAP SUPPORT FOR BARDERA MATERNITY HOSPITAL:By Somali Education and Health Organization (SEHO)
byUSA-Gedo-News
There has been strong and steady support from Somali-American Women Aid Project (SWAP) for the Bardera Maternity Hospital. The support which these gentle ladies give to Bardera Maternity Hospital, which has been providing health services for women and children, is not just social and technical support but financial support as well.
To date, SWAP gave Bardera Maternity money totaling $3,000.00 US. Bardera Maternity Hospital cause receives monthly support from Diaspora Somali Community members in North America.
The strongest support yet is from SAWAP and with great appreciation. The first financial support from SAWAP in the amount of $1500 covered parts of the hospitals second quarterly expenses for the year starting March 2009.
As there is no functioning ministry of health in Somalia, groups such as SAWAP and caring individuals are left to carry the burden to sustain public services in Somalia. The entire monetary aid from SAWAP is used to pay Bardera Maternity Hospital’s monthly expenses such as nurse’s incentives, utilities and other overheads. The hospitals yearly expenses are just over $30,000.00.
SAWAP is a group of Somali-American Women who have been supporting variety of public services activities going on in Somalia; especially services geared towards women, children and the elderly.
So far SAWAP supporters have helped public institutions operating in Bardera, Abduwak, Kismayo and Belad Hawo and they plan to extend their support in other cities throughout Somalia.
Currently, SAWAP gets its support from professional women and students who are from cities across North America from such places like Washington DC, Fairfax, Columbus, Toronto, Minneapolis, Denver, Houston, Seattle and San Diego.
The management, staff and volunteers of Bardera Maternity Hospital is thankful to SAWAP and its supporters. SAWAP has created a noble act to follow.
