Re: Is China a neo colonial power in Africa?
Yes,
they are pretty much doing what Europeans have been doing for the last couple of centuries. But now with the west and China, there is competition for Africa which means African governments will either get a better deal out of it, or be driven into proxy wars.

It would be a credible question if it wasn't coming from an American

Both Yes and No.FAH1223 wrote:If yes, put your reasons.

No, because African goverments choose to sell large farmlands to the chinese, when it actually should be kept for the people. So its just corruption and stupidity. And for that you cannot blame no other then yourself.
Yes, because China sees a pattern in Africa. They notice that African leaders are stupid so they continiue exploiting their stupitidness.
Examples: They practicly own Zimbabwe now, since everything produced there is Chinse, plus they have all the rights to mine the diamons and gold. This is devastating for the zimbabwean economy and they will never be indipendent this way. But they have a hate for whites that make them blind to the yellow.
China build roads for Congo worth 60 billion (yes billion) lat year. In return they got mining contracts for mineral worth 600 billion. Great deal eh? Makes you appreciate you math lessons in school. Very fu*** sad.
Ethiopias production sector is full of chinese companies and they are exporting the economy to their countries. In nigeria they now own the rights for extracting OIL.
In sudan its the same. In Angola there is currently 300 000 chinese workers building the country. Where is the angolan workers?
So yeah china is definetly using the situation to benefit themselves.

what about the argument that its a "win-win" for both sides? That China is getting benefit and the Africans are developing?Coeus wrote:Both Yes and No.FAH1223 wrote:If yes, put your reasons.

Re: Is China a neo colonial power in Africa?
i think it depends on Africans .
if Africans continue to be lead by these same corrupt power-hungry ethnocentric murderous maniacs theni'll say yes
we will be weak and vulnerable then , China is hungry for minerals and Africa has rich reserves
don't see it getting any prettier

Re: Is China a neo colonial power in Africa?
Africa is developing thanks to Chinese investment but the problem is that they import their own labour therefore the Africans don't get the benefit of employment or skill development. Also when they open up businesses, it would be acceptable if they hired the locals and provided employment but they again hire their own. Therefore although the Chinese are not after political control as the early colonial powers were, their presence in Africa, if not regulated will probably lead to many African countries economic colonisation by the Chinese. I also remember reading an article on the FT about China wanting the African countries it trades with to start using the Renminbi (Chinese currecy).

Re: Is China a neo colonial power in Africa?
The chinese is nothing without Africa, they would literally die without trade with Africa, but Africa wouldnt. If African leaders get their act together, it is us who controll the continent and ultimately the world. Because everything needed is in Africa, not in a contaminated crowded country like china.BlackVelvet wrote:Africa is developing thanks to Chinese investment but the problem is that they import their own labour therefore the Africans don't get the benefit of employment or skill development.
