Drunk Ethiopian embassy official threatens to ‘start war’ with Turkey

An official from the Ethiopian Embassy in Ankara, who was reportedly drunk, threatened police officers he would “start a war” between Ethiopia and Turkey after he was involved in two traffic accidents on Nov. 26.

Numbers of police officers were dispatched to the scene after the accidents on the suspicion he had been driving under the influence, as he had denied an alcohol test, saying he did not drink alcoholic beverages.

After he was urged by police officers, he threatened them saying he would ignite a diplomatic crisis between Turkey and Ethiopia.

One of the witnesses, Burak Ayaydın, whose car was hit in one of the two accidents, said the suspect threatened to “start a war” with Turkey.

“This person hit another car down the road. He drove off from there and then hit us. He was assigned to an embassy of a country. The person is drunk. He did not accept to take an alcohol test and called for ‘war between Ethiopia and Turkey.’” People who witnessed the incident also said he actually said that,” Ayaydın said.

Only an anger I am sure he would regret later and realise how foolish he made himself.

The Ethiopian Foreign Ministry on Dec. 1 stated that it recalled an embassy employee in Ankara who was reportedly drunk and threatened police officers that he would “start a war” between Ethiopia and Turkey after getting involved in a traffic accident, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.

The ministry said in a statement that Ethiopian Foreign Minister Workneh Gebeyehu instructed the formation of a committee to investigate the incident.

It also said the embassy staffer returned to the country on suspicion of misconduct and the ministry was also weighing on imposing sanctions on the official after they shed light on the incident.

The official had reportedly refused to take an alcohol test after the accident.

He also reportedly vowed to “ignite a diplomatic crisis between Turkey and Ethiopia.”

One of the eyewitnesses, whose car was hit and damaged by the official, also said the suspect threatened to “start a war” with Turkey.

“This person hit another car down the road. Then he drove off and hit us ... It looked like he was drunk,” the eyewitness said.

“He did not agree to take an alcohol test and called for a ‘war between Ethiopia and Turkey.’ Other people who witnessed the incident also heard him say that,” he added.

Honestly, Somalia, Ethiopia, Eritrea and Djibouti remind me of three village idiots and one prostitute trying to destroy, spread legs, defecate and pee on Horn of Africa. There is so much potential here, but we choose to suffer. Just the fact of famine deaths is enough to understand how effing screwed the countries are.

Regarding Ethiopia, they are not very happy with Turkey's involvement in Somalia because the status quo of fragmented and weak Somalia is very beneficial for Ethiopia in their myopic approach to the region. Turkey is trying to disrupt that. On top of it Turkey is very active west of Addis Ababa in South Sudan and Sudan. Habesha establishment can not express their discontent openly since Turkey is a major investor in Ethiopia. Also Ethiopia needs friends in the wider region due to the ongoing spat with Egypt over the Renaissance Dam. Obviously there are many layers to the issues of African Horn. In reality Ethiopia is a house of cards and can collapse and catch fire on its own. Soon or later Ogaden will be taken back by Somalia.

Ethiopia has population exploration (more than 100 millions) and wants to expand to other countries through her illegal immigrants. This statement was said by Sudanese ambassador in Ethiopia. Sudan/Kenya/Eritrea/Somalia have border issues with Ethiopia and their illegal immigrants.

The same old game of falling into welcoming and seducing hands of corruption and subsequent mismanagement. Country after country in this region play this game and always lose. When I read news from Ethiopia, what strikes me is the constant mini conflicts across the country with people being killed in substantial numbers. If Habesha rulers were genuinely concerned about the well-being of its citizen, there would be no such conflicts. In fact, many ethnic groups of Ethiopia would prefer to live under Harbesha if the rulers were truly caring for people.

Days when super powers like the U.S. and Russia would economically interfere in the nation-building are long gone. They figured out that fools like us not need to be helped. Just supplying weapons is enough. In old times, out of fear of spreading of communism, the U.S. invested heavily in terms of economy, military, industries, education in European countries (Marshall Plan), Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Turkey. Yes, I said Turkey. Turkey was literally pulled out of the Ottoman Medieval state of affairs by the U.S. That's why Turkey today is what it is today. Erdogan just took this American legacy and further excelled Turkey economically and militarily, but lowered the country by his Islamism. That's the paradox of today's Turkey. It's no coincidence that Turkey is a founding member of NATO.
