Faarax M.J Cawl and Somali authors of Somali Literature/Hist

We have had so many gifted authors
, among whom was Faarax Maxamed Jamac Cawl, a third cousin of Sultan Mohamoud Ali shire Cawl. Their grandfather, Cawl lf you will, was mentioned in one of Richard Burton 's memoir on Somalia. He was a gifted author and so many other authors, Books like Aqoondarro waa u nacab jacayl, Maanafaay, Geediga Wadaay, Dhibanaha aan dhalan, Ayaandarro, Illiinta Caashaqa , etc. Ma Dhabbaa Jacayl waa loo dhintaa, translated also as Is It True One may die of Love.

If you remember of the Cafe days, online discussion, one of the discussants , Aamina, an educated sister , had this to say.

The story of Calimaax and his heroine, Cawrala. It was about 1974.
I gues girls have different sensibility than boys of the same age
group because, even though I was too young to grasp the core of the Story, I understood the meaning of the tragic and doomed love between
Calimaax and Cawrala. the rest of the story for me only formed the background.
But as for your statement that intellectuals are too boring to have the
creative impulse which is the hall mark of a writer, what kind kinds
of the intellectual do have in mind?
Some of my great intelltucal heroes/heroines happen to be writers as
well as intellectuals. This list include: Heinrich Mann, his brother
Thomas Mann, Iris Murdoch, Franz Kafka, Dostoevsky, George Orwell, Ngugi Wa Thiongo,
Oscar Wilde, Ben Okri, Publo Nerude, and many others. These are both
intelletuals and writers who registered the intellectual concerns of
their historical moments.
I will include above list the author of Aqoon darro wa u nacab Jayl
for he grasped so vividely the universal story of human beings perpetual
longing for love and eternal peace!

I am sorry sister. I made his photo to be my avatar to commemorate and mark his literary achievement, not to dishonor him. He and a large convoy of his tribesmen, mostly educated and some of the highest echelons of the former government were massacred by the Hawadle in Beledweyne. It was a tragic memory which many witnessed or recall it happen to their relatives.

I am ashamed to say I never heard of Faarax cadde. But thank you for reminding us of his work. It is important every piece of our literature is kept because without it we do not exist.

Damal,

Farax and his convoy were killed in Hiiraan, but not by Hawaadle. One person was saved by miracle. Surprised

Sister I know of this story quite deeply. Why, my first cousins were among them. Fortunately, they weren't killed. Share with us whatever you know of this tragic story.
