Jury Duty

This week i have served as a juror in a criminal case where the defendant was found guilty by the crimes of abducting, raping and robbing. This is by far one of the few things that i wouldnt forget for years to come.

As a juror, when the prosecutor presented their evidences incriminating the guy and the defendant's lawyer was unable to give enough justification for the innocence of his client, in my own mind, it was not so hard to come to a conclusion that he was guilty BUT the idea of me deciding to put another human life behind the bars for his entire life, made me sick even though i know i can sleep at night with that kind of judgement!

I hope that i wouldnt be called to go through such a thing again.

whats with the contradiction? you felt sick by your decision but you can sleep at night?


in your heart of heart if you believe you made the right decision from what was put in front of you then i dont see any reason why you should feel guilty. especialy about a rapist.

or is there something that you are not telling?

as long as you acted in all honesty with the right intentions then it should be all gravy. after all, you draw your conclusion from the evidence that was presented in front of you and since you aint no psychic i guess you have to do with what you got.

I was summoned for jury duty yesterday, but wasn't needed and got passed over. As a health care worker I have generally been excused and regret that I have never served.

How would you describe the experience, other than the verdict? Did it seem like a fair system, one likely to produce justice?

Can you compare it to what would have happened under shariica ?

Jury Duty is the one thing that baffles me in the American Justice System. Nitwits who have neither legal expertise, nor the intelligence to circumvent and evade a call to JD are collected and, based on the decisions made by the said dimwits, someone's life is on the balance, WTF!!

When it comes to actual crimes with victims involved, the two aren't that dissimilar in terms of fairness in reaching a verdict. The only problem I have with Hadd punishments is that you can't take them back. If you cut an alleged thief's hand off, and then 10 years later it turns out he was framed, you can't re-attach the hand.

Actually there is a difference between Sharia law and western law..and thats...the burden of proof is way too hard and much more complicated in the sharia law than in lets just call it American law.

The hand will never be cut off unless there is a repetitive action from the thief and the reason behind the theft has nothing to do with need/hunger etc.

No one will be punished with Karbaash...unless 4 people see the action going on with their eyes...etc etc.
